Works for me!

I dont (so far!) have any issues w/ importing. I really like the app - I dont use it for shopping list, tho, so I cant speak to that function. And I havent had any (major) issues w/ syncing to my Mac. The only feature I really wish the iOS app had is the nutrition calculator. It is on the desktop version, but the app would be perfect (for me) if it offered that feature. Really makes cooking a pleasure!

Serious app for a serious cook

I am a serious home cook. I explore food. Whether I am trying out new local restaurants or growing heirloom varieties of my favorite vegetables I am looking for a food experience that isnt just about getting food on the table as quick as possible. When I roll up my sleeves to cook I want all of my recipes at hand. I want them easily accessible and off my valuable counter space. However I need my recipes in lots of places. When inputting new recipes or updating current ones with my notes I prefer doing that on my Mac. When I am in the kitchen I love having my iPad hanging from under a cabinet right at eye level and keeping my counter clear and when I am at the store I love having the recipes on my iPhone to check for an ingredient. To make this work I need an app that takes the design of all three spaces into mind and then seamlessly makes them all work together. MacGourmet does just that. I have been able to build my recipe library on a digital platform that allows me to tailor it to how I work with food and recipes. Out of all the digital recipe boxes out there this one is designed very well for the serious cook. There are some flaws like the shopping list feature leave a lot for me to be desired and there are a few features I just simply never use but I got this as a way to digitally store my massive recipe library and have it easily accessible and searchable and this does that amazingly well. The major win for this app is that it work both in iOS and OSX. The biggest opportunity to take it to the next level would be in making the shopping list feature easier to use and organize. My biggest hope is that now with the iPad Pro out that they make a new version that will be compatible and not just a stretched out version of the iPad version.

Upgrade works

To the person who says the recipes dont display: try rebooting your device . Mine works fine. Also check if you are using recent IOS. app still needs some bugs corrected, support for sub lists, ability to print recipes , etc. but imports from web and sync now appear to work well .

No longer displaying full recipes

Since last update of Nov 25, 2015 the recipes titles are shown in the recipe box but they wont display in the view window make it it impossible to read/view a recipe. The recipe contents are all there (I am able to email or share them) but just not displaying. Please please fix immediately

A little broken since upgrade

After performing the last upgrade, the app on my iPad pro now opens like it is an iPhone app. It only utilizes 1/4 of the screen. It was working as expected before the upgrade. Something has been broken. Sad, because I use this app every day.

Upgrade no good

Installed the update on my iPad Air and a recipe selected in the sidebar does not display.

Broken

App no longer works after upgrade. Will not display any recipe. Tried reloading app. Tried rebooting iPad. No luck. The reloading caused all recipes to be wiped. Tried to resync with server. App wont accept any login data so couldnt connect with server.

Unfortunate timing for a broken update

I have to feel bad for a developer who releases an update that breaks their cooking app the day before Thanksgiving. I also have to feel bad for the users who couldnt view their recipes normally. Since they released a new iOS app and dropped support for the previous app both the iOS and Mac versions have worked well for me. Ive had no problems with syncing or anything else until this update. Im one who cant view my recipes in the left pane of my iPad. I just get a message that no recipe is selected. Restarting my device had no affect. It is still possible to see the recipes via Chefs view. Overall Ive been happy with MacGourmet. I am sure they will get the problem fixed. Hopefully without releasing a completely new app and requiring existing users to pay again. ;)

Upgrade caused problems

Ill come back and return my rating to five stars when this gets fixed, because I love this app and use it constantly. But talk about bad timing for an upgrade with problems! I was cooking merrily away with my iPad the day before Thanksgiving and everything was fine. I started the app up again in the afternoon and none of my recipes would display unless I used the "chef mode". I deleted the app, reloaded it and resynced the recipes. Now all the recipes show up but the app thinks my iPad 3rd gen is an iPhone, so theyre formatted for a phone. Not the end of the world, but pretty annoying.

Nothing like making a bad app worse!

This app has always stunk but this update has made it worse! The smart lists have never synced correctly and since the app was bought by Mariner there is no help whatsoever. Now, in addition to that the recipes only show up on the left 1/3 of the screen. Yes, I tried turning my device off and back on to no avail. WTG developers!

Great app, great customer service

It was unfortunate that the latest upgrade, which is seriously flawed, was released the day before Thanksgiving. But I contacted the developers, and they responded very quickly to say that they apologized and that theyre working on it. It appears that the app has trouble recognizing that youre using an iPad and not an iPhone. Until they can push out a fix, its not really that much of a problem to read the recipes. Its just a formatting issue. And the app is so useful over all, that I cant live without it, even if its temporarily less than perfect.

Terrible after the Nov upgrade

Update 12/6/15 I rebooted both iPads on which this app runs to no result. I wish I could post a picture of how ridiculous my app screen looks now. Moreover, it deletes all recipe updates once I try to synchronize the two devices. :( I already lost two recipe corrections before o noticed this bug yesterday. Please fix this... I used to love this app... Update 11/29/2015: Yesterday I updated this and nothing works anymore. it uses a third of the screen the remaining part being empty, it disconnected me from their cloud and I cant connect back, and once you click on a picture you have to crash-quit the app because it wouldnt exit that picture anymore. Please fix! Rewriting you old review: as of 1/1/15 the sync between Mac and iPad works. However the lists still dont work (neither on Mac nor on mobile devices) hence the 4 stars. Great customer service though, so I hope theyll fix it.

No longer works right

Ever since the day before Thanksgiving (TERRIBLE timing!) the app doesn’t display right. At first I didn’t realize that the problem was the app updated and I tried to reinstall and resync my recipes. However, for at least 2 weeks customer account info is showing not available on the developer website and password reset doesn’t work because it can’t find my account. I used the app regularly before they broke it. Please fix!!

No stars

Worst app yet!, zero customer support, you may as well just give them your money. Total waste

Haven’t downloaded my files since purchased in July

I was excited to purchase the gourmet plus for my computer and to download this app from the apple store back in July. I am a chef and rely on a program for all my cooking, having the phone app helps 100% when at the market and unsure of what is needed for a recipe. Since my purchase I have never been able to download my recipes as the program keeps saying “no such email” when I try to sign up. I have been in contact with the developer who keep responding they are working on it but to date nothing has changed. I paid the fee for the new version of mac gourmet, the fee for the app and can not use it at all…I would recommend not purchasing this product until the developer can stand behind their work and have the programs work as it’s unfair for us as the end user.

Still broken, guys

The new update has not fixed the display issue on iPad. Recipes still don’t display when selected.

Has not really been updated since iOS 6!

I thought since the app had been updated in December 2015 that it would be "current", but this app doesnt even support iOS 7! Everything is "scaled up" from the iOS 6 days, including the user interface and keyboard. Mariner Software should be ashamed of keeping such a rickety old app in the App Store and only providing extremely minor "bug fix" updates instead of embracing iOS 7, iOS 8 and iOS 9. Dont waste your money (unless youre still using an iPhone 4 or like supporting developers who dont stay up-to-date).

I love this app

I sync this across 6 devices. The only significant issue I have is this. I imbed a recipe as an ingredient in a master recipe and when synced it really messes up the recipe. But stays true on the original device. Other than that, I really like this program even with its quirks.

Features still not working

I really want to give this five stars, but features arent working. There are features not importing from my Mac recipes. 1) Equipment shows heading, but no details! 2) If Mac recipe has calculated nutrition, then include it on iOS app! 3) If Mac recipe has Nutrition text listed, include it in iOS app! 4) More templates or views need to be included, especially ones built-into Mac app. 5) Prepared flag is not displayed. 6) Flag is not displayed. Fix all these and Ill change my review to 5 stars!

Please fix this!

I used to find this app so useful. I would download recipes on my Mac, and sync the app so that I could use the iPad when Im in the kitchen cooking. But for some reason, lately its been completely unstable. Ive had to uninstall and reinstall it a couple of times, just to get it to work properly. When I try to sync it, it keeps crashing.
